The main objective of the LMET is, provide students and researchers the possibility of preparation and observation of structures of materials. To achieve this goal the LMET has equipment for the execution of all phases of preparation of materials to observe, in particular, cutting, sanding and polishing, chemical attack and microscopic observation. With the goal of making the LMET increasingly interdisciplinary laboratory was endowed with some equipment for the study of the degradation and characterization of mechanical properties of materials.

Currently, in LMET are taught the laboratory classes of CMATE and supporting other classes in of the 1st and 2nd cycles of Mechanical Engineering course, such as manufacturing processes and welding processes. The LMET has been also supporting the classes of other departments of ISEP.
